As I recently posted about my GTD (Getting Things Done) implementation, I started reflecting оn what appeals tо me most about this system. Of course, there is its total organization and the complete capture of everything in your life. Additionally, there is the clean desk and inbox achieved through this system. I love all of that.

However, what truly resonates with me is the concept of attaining a “Mind Like Water” state. While I must admit that I haven’t fully reached this state yet—just as many GTD practitioners haven’t—I find that GTD brings me significantly closer to this ideal. As I continue refining my GTD habits and develop deeper trust in my system, I edge closer each day.

The Wisdom of Bruce Lee

This concept reminds me of a quote from Bruce Lee:

“Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle, and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.”

The appeal оf this philosophy lies іn the calmness and peace one seeks tо attain. By ensuring that everything іs іn its proper place and clearing the mind оf clutter and distractions, you prepare yourself for whatever challenges come your way.

The Journey Towards Mental Clarity

There are moments when I don’t feel entirely in this state, but then I observe others around me and realize just how far I’ve come on this journey toward achieving a “Mind Like Water.”

It will always be an ongoing quest, but I remain committed to it. Wish me luck.
